Casual | Jeans & a Blazer
Hello everyone! It feels like a really long time since I last blogged, haha. I guess it's only been a few days, but lots of things have happened.
First things first, a home update: we pulled the inspection contingency on our house...! This basically means that we "passed" the house on all the inspections and are actually going to buy it. We did do the suggested radon test, Minnesota is apparently a "hot zone" for radon, which came back with elevated levels, so the seller is going to install an abatement system to get that taken care of. Other than that, the house is pretty much perfect. Tucker & I have been spending a lot of time dreaming (read: Pinteresting) ideas for how we want to spruce this place up. Tucker's dad, who used to flip houses and is an all around fix-it man, luckily knows how to do a ton of stuff at home. Before we even move in, we're planning to build a new closet off the master bedroom, move around a few walls, redo the trim, paint, and possibly refinish some floors. I CAN'T WAIT to get going on all of this! Don't worry, I will definitely be doing some home DIY posts :)
Anyways, let's get to this outfit. I'm kind of obsessed with this look, I really ought to wear blazers more often. I know I love them, I have so many of them, but I never seem to wear them outside of work! Wearing blazers with jeans just makes me feel way more put together than I actually am ;) This blazer is just my standard navy blazer from my matching suit - a staple that any working woman should have. For anyone just building a corporate wardrobe, or looking to update an existing one, I highly recommend buying a navy and black suit - pants, jacket, and matching skirt if you are into skirts. I rarely wear a full suit, but having each of those pieces as separates is a game changer. Also, having a well fitting blazers and/or dress pants can really make a difference. If you have a hard-to-fit body (as it seems 99% of women do haha), I recommend you get your suit tailored if needed. If something fits perfectly, it'll look 100x better and make you feel that much more confident. Many department stores have free tailoring too, just ask in the dressing rooms!
With the blazer, I'm wearing a new pair of jeans I recently got from LOFT. I love jeans from LOFT, they are super stretchy (i.e. comfortable) and wash really well. They last years and years, and are super reasonably priced. LOFT jeans do run big, so I recommend sizing down if you're looking to buy. On top, I'm wearing a simple navy t-shirt. I have this same t-shirt in pink as well, they're great basics that go with everything, but the little bit of silky fabric dresses them up a bit, so they're great for work as well. Last, I've got this cute mini-scarf on. I used this to bring another color into my outfit, and to add a little flair. *cue hair flip* For shoes, I've just got my old oxfords on. Jeez, these really need to be cleaned... I should get on that...
