Light Denim for Spring
GUESS WHAT?! I own a house!! To say we're excited would definitely be an understatement. During the construction period, I'll be posting a little less because I’m pretty lacking on free time right now. If you want to follow along with the renovation, I'm going to be posting updates on Instagram Stories pretty regularly.
Just my luck, my project at work right now is picking up and getting busy for the final push over the next couple weeks - and then I'll be off for my cruise! Whew, these new three weeks are going to be CRAZY. Crazy in a good way, I seem to be the happiest when I have eight million balls in the air.
This outfit is totally cruise ready. Is anyone else planning a spring break getaway? Where you going?
I've had some pretty incredible spring breaks the past five or so years…. In 2014, I did a technology exchange in Nicaragua with my project team at school and Las Mujeres Solares, a wonderful organization that empowers local women through renewable energy. Spring of 2015 I spent studying abroad in Switzerland, and my spring break was "academic travel" - I took an Irish history class all semester than culminated in a guided 10 day trip through Ireland with my professor and classmates. My senior spring of 2016, I did a service trip to Peru with Unearth the World, which focuses on education in rural communities. Last year, I took my first "big girl" vacation (i.e. with a real job and not on a college budget) to Chile with two girlfriends. I feel so lucky to be able to take a fun trip every spring!
This spring, I'm going on a cruise with my mom, aunt, cousin, and my cousin's daughter (it's a surprise girls trip for my cousin's daughter's birthday - she's turning 8! Wish I had been that lucky when I was 8! :D) We're leaving out of Fort Lauderdale, FL and have stops in Labadee, Haiti, Falmouth, Jamaica, and Cozumel, Mexico. I've never been on a cruise before, do you have any tips?
Alright, enough about me, onto the outfit. These light wash, raw hem jeans are amazing. They are super comfortable and stretchy and can be worn super casually or dressed up. They are a very light wash, not quite white but almost, and are high rise, which I really like. I got these last spring before my Chile trip, but I've found an updated version, which I linked below.
On top, I'm wearing a casual collared bloused. It's short sleeved, but modest enough to be worn to work. I wear it with jeans a lot, but I've also paired it with patterned navy pants or a skirts and worn it to work.
Let's be real here, the accessories are what make this outfit. First, sunnies. I just got these prescription sunglasses from Warby Parker and LOVE THEM. Best part, is that these were covered by my vision insurance!! I know a lot of bloggers have like 20 pairs of sunglasses, but I just don't wear them that often (because I wear glasses 90% of my life) - but these are a game changer!
I do have a necklace poking out under the color of my shirt. I like to add this as an extra layer to add depth to a basic shirt. Lastly, THE SHOES.
These shoes were such a steal! I got them on clearance at Target for $4.88… yep, you read that right. Less than $5. You can still find them in this olive and tan at some Targets if you dig. They've also released a couple similar versions in other colors, which I've linked below. I really like the color of these, olive is one of my favorite "neutrals". I also like the height, they're not so high so they're super comfortable. The hot pink toes are a MUST ;)
